In yesterday’s class, I learned more about the overall skills we are developing in our core exercises of form, punching, and blocking.
- These are foundation exercises to help our brains learn to better manage balance, timing, and coordination. This image seemed to speak to all three.
- While the movements seem so basic when you first watch them, there is a tremendous amount of depth and thought that has gone into the approach.
- Interestingly, the force to apply with blocks and punches was compared to a sledgehammer strike in terms of physics, but I am still not 100% clear on this. There seems to be an aspect of inertia and momentum to generate power, but the goal is to also relax.
- Targets for blocking are in consideration of the central, rotational axis.
