By 2025, 90% of Ads are Programmatic

Posted by:

“#5: 90% of all advertising will flow programmatically within a decade. Over the last several years, we’ve all witnessed a meteoric rise of programmatic mobile and video. TV will follow suit within the next few years. The millions of smart TV units flying off store shelves, and the increase in digital content consumption, will accelerate the shift towards programmatic. In fact, I predict that within the next decade, 90% of all advertising dollars will flow through a programmatic channel that’s ...

Programmatic Ad Tech: SSPs, DSPs, DMPs, RTBs

Posted by:

“The SSPs will hide the complexity from publishers and the DSPs will do the same for advertisers.

Trading desks will deliver the single point of contact experience for those who need it and first and third party data will be managed by DMPs. Analytics and optimization will be available at every node to help with ROI.

In short, with such an infrastructure brands can concentrate on the message they wish to deliver and who they wish to ...

The Programmatic Advertising Future

“DSPs, SSPs, DMPs, ad exchanges and ad servers are all components of the programmatic technology “stack” – and these technology platforms iterate rapidly with new features of increasing sophistication.”
Note: Source for this text is at the bottom of this post.

“Real-time bidding sounds high-tech but straightforward. When a consumer visits a website, his browser communicates with an ad server. The server sends a message to an exchange to provide data about that user, such as ...

Early Stage Investment Activity in 2015

Posted by:

A quick update on the early stage market from this source:

After an exuberant Q3’15, which hit dot com-funding levels, Q4’15 cooled dramatically. Sentiment, which became very negative in late Q3, quickly manifested itself in Q4 activity as overall investment activity saw a drastic drop-off in the final quarter of 2015. Funding fell 30% amid weakening mega-round activity while deal activity fell 13% vs. the previous quarter, reaching a level last seen in Q1’13.

Marketing Ops – Great Campaign Structure Advice and My 2000 Millicents

Posted by:

When I led marketing operations and analytics at Siebel, drove the implementation at Oracle, and was a product marketing guy at Unica, one of the most critical elements of measuring marketing ROI was campaign structure. Since I’ve spent the last three years writing about big data and data science at Pivotal.io, I see even more reason why quality and granular attribution in this area becomes critical. I hope to make a bit of a series on this topic. For now, I’ll keep it high ...

Brain Science and Visuals

While looking for a new image for a post, I ran across this friendly reminder :)…

One of my favorite books on this subject, Neuro Web Design by Susan Weinschenk, details the story of a kitchen remodeling company trying to make a good ad. The company had no shortage of great photos to showcase the amazing work it had done in the past, but the ads still weren’t succeeding like company leaders wanted. With the help of Weinschenk’s research, the company decided to stage ...

It’s Officially Time to Freak Out if Your Mobile Shopping Site Sucks

Interesting Black Friday research…

Visits from mobile phones comprised 52 percent of total traffic on shopping sites and apps on Thanksgiving, according to ChannelAdvisor, an e-commerce software company that helps merchants sell on big marketplaces like Amazon and eBay. The company said that 37 percent of all online Thanksgiving orders were made on smartphones, up 131 percent from last year’s 16 percent figure.

Why is there still a gap between visits and orders? People are still finding it too tough to complete ...
